About the song: This song is about the people who matter long after they’re no longer physically in your life, especially friendships that continue even when circumstances change. This “different kind of love” song is written for anyone who’s ever had to
see you later to someone dear to them, not knowing when they’ll get to see each other again.

I remember writing this song at 2 am or so, just a few nights before I left Chicago for good back in 2016. I was, graduating and at the time, so ready to leave.

That is, until the final moments before I really had to go for good.

Feelings are rarely simple. I was ready to leave the place, but not the people. I was thrilled about starting something new back in Hong Kong, but not so thrilled that this meant without some of my closest friends

So as people do when they say "see you soon", we made a 'bucket list'.

My friends Danielle and Liz were the very first friends that heard this song as an iPhone recording from my bedroom, soon after we made a bucket list of our own. We three made a promise that even as we live our dreams and experience life apart, we'd find ways to celebrate them together. This has meant finding each other the best we can in person, no matter where we are in the world. I'm proud to say, we've managed at least once every single year except this, which has to this date included Paris, New York, Hong Kong, and Taiwan! I'm grateful that this has been a promise we get to keep.

Some people who've heard this song about a "different kind of love" have also interpreted it to mean something else (shrug), but whatever you take away from it - I hope it's one nonetheless that resonates with your own experience for the people you're grateful for. My hope is that this song captures in words & music something you'd want to share with someone you love too.

Such a joy working with a team to make this version of this recording happen.

Lyrics

I'd put you in my pocket if I could

Take you around the world, yes I would

But 'til you find a way, I guess this'll have to do.

So go grab a paper, grab a pen

You choose the when, I'll be there then

'Cause while we have time, let's make up a bucket list.

The world can get scary, but it's less when you're around

You're my raindrops on roses when the thundering' loud

A different kind of love song for a different kind of love

The kind that reminds you, you're alive, right here and right now

I'm packing sooner than I'd like

Seems so silly, I'm miss "try to say good bye"

But could times be any better than the way they are right now

But this ain't a sad song, It's quite the opposite

It's my way of showing, I've got something worth the missing

not for all time, just for now

'Cause I feel as though we've got lots left to say,

lots of things to do, places to see, and plans to be made

A different kind of love song is for a different kind of love

I'm the luckiest person to be with you here, right now

So let us feel what we may feel, let's let it out

God knows I know that this is real, and ask me how

There's no coincidence and no way it could be fake,

The way we get to laugh and to love, in big and little ways

So let us feel what we may feel, let's let it out (so let us feel what we may feel)

God knows I know that this is real, and ask me how

There's no coincidence and no way it could be fake,

The way we get to laugh and to love, in big and little ways

Oooh oooh, oooh

I'm a little shocked to be frank,

Did nothing to deserve life as beautiful as this.

I feel hopeful and light and blessed tonight

But please help me when I forget

Cause life can be scary, but we'll always be around

Cause we're raindrops on roses, for each other, when the thundering's loud

Our different kind of love song is for a different kind of love

The kind that's reminds you, you're alive, right here, and right now

A different kind of love song is for a different kind of love,

From me to you, and you to me, a promise,

Let's not be too long
